MY STORY
My name is Moira Gil John. I was born in Argentina in 1975. I have been living in Charleston, South Carolina, U.S. with my husband Chris John and my two dogs for more than 6 years.
My friend Jenny and I have a Surf School (Folly Beach Shaka Surf School). Teaching adults and children how to surf has been a huge gift that I find a lot of pleasure in doing.
I come from a surfer family. My dad, Daniel Gil, is Argentina’s surf pioneer . He brought the first surfboard into the country from Peru in 1963. He also has a Surf School in Kikiwai Beach, Mar del Plata, which he stared more that 30 years ago.
My mom, Patricia Boggan, also loves to surf.
My family is quite a big family. We are nine siblings, seven girls and two boys. We all surf and relate our artistic skills to the ocean. We have lived in different places around the world, and always near the sea. Surf and Art have also been a part of our lives.
Travelling around the world still something I enjoy very much and do whenever I can.

I decided to become a photographer when I realize that I wanted to keep forever those amazing moments I was experiencing. I also find joy in taking other people’s pictures, while sharing with the rest of the world all the different and exotic cultures. I love to capture those fast seconds, and then transform them into eternal memories.
During the cold winter of 2003 at Folly Beach SC, my creativity started to rise. I discovered that I was really enjoying using brushes and paint to express myself. Living next to the ocean also gave me great inspiration. I was finally able to paint all the waves that I wished for.
My art changes all the time, since I paint from my heart. Inspiration comes to me only has a spontaneous expression, and I love that.

What I like the most from surfing is the amaizing feeling I get from being connected to everything.
When I take photos I like to find these moments of connection and freeze them forever.
